Residence Hall Move-in Reminders

Here are some reminders for you as you make preparations to move in.

Move-in Day

If you attended Alive!, plan on arriving no earlier than Wednesday, August 19th. If you did not attend Alive!, plan on arriving on Sunday, August 16th.

During move-in week, a free move-in shuttle service will be available from the campus parking lots to your Residence Hall. The shuttles will be operating on:

  • 8/16 - 10 am to 4 pm
  • 8/19 - 10 am to 4 pm

Baggage carts and Housing Staff members will be available to aid in carrying your belongings to your room. Please be aware that storage space in Residence Hall rooms is extremely limited, so plan your move well so that you bring only what you absolutely need.

Parking

Permits are required to park on campus. Residence Hall parking permits are available on a first come, first served basis. There are several different options available which will allow you to park in a variety of places. In some cases you will be able to park in your residence hall lot! Permit options for students living in Resident Halls are as follows:

  • Blue Permit
  • Gray Permit (closest to most halls)
  • Crimson (closest to the Hill Halls and Stimson/Waller)

All prices are for a full year and may be purchased online or at the Parking and Transportation Services Office upon your arrival. The Parking and Transportation Services Building is located at the corner of Colorado and D Streets.  Gray and Crimson lot permits are limited, and may require authorization from your Residential Education Director before purchase.  To purchase permits and for the most up to date parking permit prices and parking lot locations, please visit the Parking Services website at www.parking.wsu.edu or call 509-335-PARK(7275).

Telephones

Phone service in the residence halls is optional. Individual rooms will not come with an activated phone in the room; residents will be able to rent phone service from Housing Services. The cost to rent phone service in one’s room is $70 per semester; voice mail is $15 per semester. The cost of installation is $30. Summer rates will be $0.53/day for phone and $0.10/day for voice mail. Read more about requesting phone service.

Computers

Computers will play a large part in your college life. The majority of students now take a computer with them to school. In order to use your computer with the campus network, you will need to visit The Student Computing Service (SCS) website to find out what the requirements for a computer are, what equipment is needed, and what the regulations are for using the campus network.

Aside from your own computer, you will also have access to several computer labs located across campus. These labs offer the use of PC and Apple Macintosh computers as well as providing other computer services such as CD authoring, color scanning, and digital video editing.

Follow the links below for all you SCS computer information needs.

Refrigerators

A limited number of University-owned refrigerators are available for rent through your hall's custodial staff. Refrigerators may be rented on a first come first served basis for $50 a year and microfridges may be rented for $155 a year. If you would like to rent one, be sure to sign up upon arrival. You may bring your own 4.5 cu. Ft. refrigerator, but personal microwaves are not permitted in the residence halls.

Linen

Linen is not provided by Housing Services. Plan on bringing your own extra long twin (80 inches) size sheets, pillow, blankets, bedspread, and towels. (Orton's futons take a double bed size.) Laundry facilities are available to you in your hall.

What else to bring?

How about: a computer, stereo, fan, alarm clock, camera, pictures from home, surge protector, extension cord, toiletries, and other personal items to make your room your home. Your hall will provide TV lounges, laundry facilities, study rooms, recreational equipment, several microwaves and kitchenettes, and various educational and recreational activities.
