Break Housing

Limited housing during vacation periods may be available for current residents in: McCroskey, McEachern, Orton, Regents, Rogers, the Stephenson Towers, and Streit-Perham halls.

If you are staying for break housing in one of the halls listed above, you must obtain approval through your Residence Hall Director. Residents whose halls are closed and will need housing during break should call the Residence Life Office 335-1227 Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis . Reservations may be made through Housing Services. There is no charge for break housing.

Check the University Dining Services web site for hours of operation for the dining halls.

Residence Hall Closing Break Check List

To ensure our empty halls are safe and secure during breaks, please use this checklist and comply with these items:

  1. Unplug all electrical appliances. Computers, fish tanks, and refrigerators can remain plugged in and corresponding cords marked. Residence Life and Housing Services staff will unplug all appliances in the event you fail to comply with this request.
  2. Set your room thermostat at 60° (if you have one).
  3. Take precautions to protect plants and any other items that could be damaged by changes in room temperature.
  4. Check smoke detector. If battery is dead, take the old battery to the front desk to exchange for a new battery, or see your hall custodian.
  5. Close and lock your windows. Close your drapes.
  6. Take out your trash.
  7. Turn off all lights.
  8. Check to be sure that your door is locked and checklist is taped to door when you leave.

Residence Life staff will check all rooms to protect personal and university property, by noting compliance with this check list.

2009 - 2010 Housing Break Schedule

  • Thanksgiving Break: 10:00 am, Nov. 22 to 2:00 pm, Nov. 28.
  • Semester Break: 10:00 a.m., Dec. 19 to 10:00 a.m., Jan. 6.
  • Spring Break: 10:00 a.m., Mar. 13 to 2:00 p.m., Mar. 20.

2009-2010 Hall Open/Close Dates

For Fall, the halls open at 10am on August 16, and close at 10am on December 19

In the Spring, the halls open at 10 am on January 6, and close at 5pm on May 8, except for summer and graduating residents.
