What to Bring to Campus
Plan to bring your own bed linens, blankets, towels, iron, clock, hangers, and personal items. Cooking in residence halls is restricted to coffee pots, hot air popcorn poppers, and hot pots. Personal microwave ovens are not allowed. All authorized items must be used on a noncombustible surface.
The following UL-approved electrical appliances are individually authorized for use in residence hall rooms: blenders; clocks; coffee pots; personal computers, printers, scanners, and related equipment for personal use; DVDs and VCRs; electric blankets or pads; electric toothbrushes; fans; hair dryers and curlers; hot air popcorn poppers; hot pots; humidifiers; irons; radios; sewing machines; shavers; stereos, iPods, MP3s and video game systems; study lamps; small refrigerators & microfridges and TV sets.
The use of an extension cord as permanent wiring is not permitted. Use of 16-gauge or heavier extension cords with built-in circuit breaker is authorized, so long as they present no hazard. Persons bringing electrically operated equipment also have the responsibility of protecting such equipment from damage as a result of possible power surges or variations.
You will need to plan how you will hang your pictures and posters; double-sided tape is difficult to remove and nails leave holes. You should consider 3M Mounting Products or poster putty.
Refrigerators & Microfridges
Additionally, you may bring your own refrigerator or microfridge. For size and wattage specifications, see http://www.livingat.wsu.edu/hdrl/common/resHallInfo/H&Dpolicies.htm#Refrigerators for refrigerators and http://www.livingat.wsu.edu/hdrl/common/resHallInfo/H&Dpolicies.htm#Microfridges for microfridges.
A limited supply of 2 cu. ft. refrigerators and 600 Micro-Fridges®, a combination refrigerator/freezer and microwave (you may not bring your own microwave) are also available. You will need to request them at check-in.
