Current Residents

The Guaranteed Rate
Our Commitment to Save you Money!

What is the Guaranteed Rate?

Beginning in Fall of 1997, WSU Housing and Dining Services set room and board rates at the current level for residents signing a contract for the next academic year. That means that for as long as you continuously live in the residence halls, your room and dining overhead charge is guaranteed not to increase.

Your rates next year, whether you lived in the halls prior to this year, or are a new resident in the current year, will remain the same as the prices you paid in your first year living in the residence halls as long as you continuously live in the residence halls.   RDA Dining Dollar levels may still be adjusted as food costs change.

Why Now?

We hope that stable future costs will be one of the reasons you choose to stay next year. We also wish more continuing students to remain in the halls to provide leadership to new residents, as well as promote a more studious atmosphere. The guarantee in rates will hopefully convince you to stay.

What are the advantages of living on campus?

From past surveys of residents the advantages of living on-campus include:

  • The proximity to classes, libraries, and recreational facilities.
  • The average 9 hours of time per week you saved not shopping for groceries, cooking, and general housekeeping.
  • Time and money you saved not commuting to the campus.
  • Time saved avoiding bus lines.
  • In room data connections, access to WSU Net, unlimited Internet access, and normal technical support.
  • Computer lab access as part of your room and board fees.
  • A sense of belonging to the WSU campus community and an opportunity for involvement in the residence halls.

And

  • A housing and dining rate guaranteed for your entire continuous stay in residence halls.

How much will you save?

Continuing residents for Fall will be guaranteed their incoming housing and dining overhead rate, whichever is appropriate, for the remainder of their continuous stay in residence halls at WSU. Assuming a 5+% annual rate increase in future years, a student remaining in the residence halls would more than double their savings each year.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for the discount requires continuous residence in the halls, excluding summer sessions. However, exceptions will be considered on an as needed basis and will revolve around academic reasons. For example, a resident leaving the halls for a semester to perform an academic internship would remain eligible for the housing and dining rate guarantee.

How do I sign up?

Simply complete a Housing and Dining Services Contract and continuously reside in the residence hall system during your years at WSU. There are no special forms to fill out, however, be sure to continually contract for a residence hall space.
