Stimson Hall Government Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a hall government and what do they
do?
A: The Stimson Hall government is a group of four men elected by
the residents of the hall to be their connection to the rest of
the campus. There are four positions; President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer. The government doesn't make decisions for
the hall; it only helps the representatives make choices for the
hall. The main body of our government is Senate.
Senate Definition
Senate is the programming club in the hall. Senate coordinates most
of our social events such as barbecues, dances, and other events.
There is no limit to its responsibilities; any resident of the hall
can bring up ideas, regardless of how different they may seem, for
consideration. All of the residents in the hall are members of Senate,
but the active members will receive priority points at the end of
each semester
Q: How and when is your hall government chosen?
A: Elected positions are filled as needed in addition to a general
election of the four executive positions within the last thirty
days of spring semester. Terms of positions generally are for 2
semesters.
Q: How can I get in contact with someone on
your hall government?
A: The easiest way to get in contact with a government member is
to visit the phone list located at http://www.stimson.wsu.edu/.
Q: What activities does Stimson hall have during
the year?
A: Stimson hosts the "Green M&M dance", "Sex
with Stimson", raft trips, paint balling trips, movie nights,
Ski trips, catered dinners, as well as a battle of the bands. Women's'
volleyball is also a very high priority to the men of Stimson.
Q: What government positions are available
at the floor/house level and how can I get involved?
A: Section representatives are the main "floor level"
position. Their responsibilities include attending all government
meetings, reporting important events and information back to their
sections, and helping to plan and implement programs in the hall.
Involvement comes from attending the first government meeting of
the year, expressing interest to their section, and ultimately being
elected or appointed to the position by the residents of that individual
section.
Q: What government positions are available
at the hall level and how can I get involved?
A: Hall level positions include but are not limited to Webmaster,
Manager of Fred's Bungalow, Montezuma Chair, Senate Chair, Recycling
Chair, Historian, and Intramural Chair. The four Executive positions
are also available to residents that have resided in Stimson for
at least two semesters. To get involved in these positions, attend
a government meeting and express interest during open forum or talk
with any current government member.
Q: On what does the government spend my $30
each semester?
A: The government spends money on items and services that are approved
through government. Items include, pizza parties, pool tables, supplies
for programs that benefit the entire hall, and almost anything else
that you could want or need while living at Stimson.
Q: What hall equipment items are available
to check-out at the front desk?
A: Items include, billiard, foos ball, basketball, baseball, football,
volleyball, and table tennis equipment. DVD players, TV's and VCR's
are also available. In addition, you may check out vacuums.
Q: When do the hall and floor governments meet?
A: Government meetings are every Tuesday at 9 P.M. in the lobby.
Section meetings are based on the needs and schedules of each individual
section.
Q: Does Stimson hall provide any leadership
training for people interested in becoming involved?
A: Yes, Stimson has a program each year called SIT. This stands
for Sponsors in Training and can be attended by any resident willing.
It covers a broad range of topics involved in becoming a "sponsor".
Sponsors are Stimson's version of an RA. In addition, there is a
government retreat each year.
Q: I understand Stimson Hall receives funds
to reduce hall damages. Tell me more about the program and on what
such money can be spent.
A: Money can be spent on such items as basketball hoops, and anything
that is related to the well being of the hall that may be unique
to Stimson and thus only benefit us.
Q: How can I get on the move-in crew and help
other residents get settled into the hall at the beginning of the
year?
A: Stimson is not involved directly with Move-in crew. But on a
voluntary level, we always go up to the hill halls and help them
with the moving process. It is just another way that we bond and
meet new people. To get involved, just show up and help, it is always
appreciated.
