Stephenson South Hall Government
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a hall government and what do they do?
A: Our government consists of a group of executives working on a hall wide level and Floor Representatives, at least one from each floor. They all work together in weekly meetings to plan activities of which the residents of our hall can participate. Government members do their best to create a community where every voice is heard and responded to.

Q: How and when is your hall government chosen?
A: Our executives are chosen in the spring prior to the next school year.  Floor Representatives and any open executive positions are filled at the beginning of the school year.

Q: How can I get in contact with someone on your hall government?
A: Getting in contact with anyone on our hall government is easy as we have weekly hall meetings open to all resident in our hall. These meeting provide a chance to anyone to voice their opinions or concerns.

Q: What activities does Stephenson South Hall have during the year?
A: Stephenson South puts on any activities our residents would like to see put on. However some traditions include the Mardi Gras Carnival, Homecoming activities, the South Olympics and various Residence Hall Association activities.

Q: What government positions are available at the floor/house level and how can I get involved?
A: There is at least one Floor Representative per floor but more than one per floor is encouraged!  Talk to your RA or a government executive to find out more.

Q: What government positions are available at the hall level and how can I get involved?
A: Hall executive positions include the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, public relations coordinator and two R.H.A. representatives. These elections are held in the spring prior to the upcoming school year. However, vacancies may exist and need to be filled in the fall at the first hall meeting.

Q: On what does the government spend my $30 each semester?
A: The government spends your $30 by putting on hall and floor activities. These activities can vary from year to year depending on input received by governments from residents. If you want to see particular programs put on, attend a hall meeting and make your voice heard!

Q: What hall equipment items are available to check-out at the front desk?
A: There are numerous items at the Stephenson front desk including cooking supplies, board games, vacuum cleaners and recreational activities to name a few.

Q: When do the hall and floor governments meet?

A: The best way to receive leadership training in Stephenson South is simply to become involved! Hall meetings are open to all residents and there are numerous hall and house positions available to all residents.  In addition, the Community Assistant program is a great way to get involved and develop leadership skills for future department and campus positions.
