Q: What is a hall government?
A: Government is open to ANY resident in Stephenson East! We meet weekly to discuss events going on around campus and in the hall. Government meetings are held weekly and everyone is encouraged to attend. There are leadership opportunities available for freshmen at the start of every semester. We have executive board positions as well as committee positions each year that need to be filled by students who are excited to get involved in the hall community!
Q: What does hall government do?
A: Community building is the primary goal of Stephenson East’s hall government. Government members do their best to create a community in which every student’s opinion is heard and responded to. We also oversee the distribution of funds from the hall budget and the hall improvement fund. We encourage anyone who has ideas for improving the hall attend government to help us distribute our funds.
Q: What government positions are available at the hall level and how can I get involved?
A: The executive board positions include the President, Vice-President, Secretary/Historian, Treasurer, Hall Activities Director and two Residence Hall Association (RHA) Representatives. Elections for these positions are held in the spring prior to the upcoming school year. However, vacancies may exist and need to be filled at the beginning of the fall semester. In addition to the elected positions, each Fall we have appointed committee positions. Those committees include Philanthropy, Publicity, Recognition, and the Hall of the Year committee.
Q: How can I get in contact with someone on your hall government?
A: The best way to get connected to government is to attend one of the weekly meetings, which are open to all. These meetings are a great avenue for anyone to voice their opinions or concerns. Contact the Stephenson East Residential Education Director (RED), Advanced Paraprofessional or any Resident Advisor (RA) to find out where and when hall government meets!
Q: On what does government spend my hall dues each semester?
A: A portion of the hall dues that you pay goes to the hall budget. This budget is used to support the programming efforts of both hall government and the RAs that reside within your building.
