Rogers Hall Government Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hall government and what do they do?
Hall government is a place where residents of Rogers can come together and meet new people, address building concerns, become updated on what is occurring around campus, attend fun programs, and gain leadership experience.

How and when is your hall government chosen?
A: Rogers’ government executives are chosen via an application process at the start of the academic year. Any resident that would like to participate is eligible. After they have submitted their application, the hall then votes on which candidates that they would like win. The general assembly is made up of floor representatives and other residents.

How can I get in contact with someone on your hall government?
A: Our meetings are held on the 12th floor lounge of Rogers on Mondays from 5:30pm-6:30pm. If you would like to attend and are not a resident of Rogers Hall, please contact the Residential Education Director at (509) 335-0185.

What activities does Rogers Hall have during the year?
With a new executive board and body of residents every year, Rogers has the unique task of creating new programs for the hall to provide to the community. Past programs have included trick-or treating for our neighbors at the Children’s Center, “Cougar Idol,” and a plethora of programs provided by the RAs.

What government positions are available at the floor/house level and how can I get involved?
A: House Representatives will be chosen during the 6-week floor meeting that is held by the RA of that community. Each floor is represented at hall government and is utilized in voting on building items that come up throughout the year.

What government positions are available at the hall level and how can I get involved?
A: Rogers’ government executive board consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Program Coordinator, and Public Relations Chairperson. Unless there is a vacancy during the year, these positions are elected within the first three weeks of school.

On what does the government spend my $25 each semester?
Government spends this money on programming for the residents in the building as well as for food. This money allows for snacks, awards, and prizes to be given at meetings and other programs.

What hall equipment items are available to check-out at the front desk?
Our desk provides many different items for our residents to check out, free of charge. We have pool sticks/balls, board games, vacuums, cooking utensils, tools, a limited supply of sport equipment.

When do the hall and floor governments meet?
A: House meetings occur monthly and government meets weekly on Mondays at 5:30pm on the 12th floor.

Does Rogers hall provide any leadership training for people interested in becoming involved?
A: There is a leadership retreat that will be provided for government executive members during the first semester. Any other training will be up to the general assembly for the spring semester. There is are also opportunities for residents to attend different conferences on campus and through other avenues via the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) in order to gain more leadership experience.

I understand Rogers Hall receives funds to reduce hall damages.  Tell me more about the program and on what such money can be spent.
A: Hall Improvement Funds are used to add items/upgrade the hall for current and future residents of the building. If damages occur in a common space, then Hall Improvement Funds are used.

How can I get on the move-in crew and help other residents get settled into the hall at the beginning of the year?
