McCroskey Hall Government
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a hall government and what do they do?
A: The McCroskey International House government is a non-traditional, peer-based committee system. Every resident of McCroskey Hall is required to be on a committee and the chairs of those committees then form the programming board. The programming board is responsible for the hall budget and how it is spent. It is also a place where the committee chairs can get ideas from other committees that they can then take back to their committees.

Q: How and when is your hall government chosen?
A: At the beginning of each semester McCroskey committee sign ups are posted. It is up to each committee to elect or appoint their chair for that semester.

Q: How can I get in contact with someone on your hall government?
A: The best way to get in touch with a member of the McCroskey Hall government would be to call the McCroskey Hall Director. They can then put you in touch with one of us.

Q: What activities does McCroskey Hall have during the year?
A: McCroskey Hall has several traditional activities that it puts on every semester. Wednesday nights at 8 throughout the year McCroskey has Coffee Hour. Coffee Hour is a program where we have outside organizations or people come to speak with us on a range of topics. Coffee Hours also include fun and games and discussions of the homelands of our many international students. During the Fall semester McCroskey Hall puts on our annual Male Service Auction as well as our Halloween Dance and Winter Formal. In the spring we put on our Female Service Auction, International Week, and our Spring BBQ. These are just a few of our many hall activities.

Q: What government positions are available at the hall level and how can I get involved?
A: Committee Sign-ups are at the beginning of each semester in McCroskey. Involvement is mandatory and committee chair positions are open to those who would like them.

Q: On what does the government spend my $30 each semester?
A: The money spent by the McCroskey Hall Programming Board goes to fund all the activities that our hall puts on each semester.

Q: When do the hall and floor governments meet?
A: The McCroskey Hall government typically meets on Sunday nights at 8 in our hall lobby, however, that is subject to change.

Q: Does McCroskey hall provide any leadership training for people interested in becoming involved?
A: No, McCroskey Hall does not provide leadership training for those wanting to get involved though there are opportunities for leadership training outside the hall.

Q: I understand McCroskey Hall receives funds to reduce hall damages. Tell me more about the program and on what such money can be spent.
A: The Hall Improvement fund in McCroskey has been used in years past to buy new hall equipment as well as to fund repairs for any damages done to the hall.
