Q: What is a hall government and what do they do?

A: The hall government is the governing body of the hall. As the governing body, the government decides how to spend hall funds, puts on programs, and represents Duncan Dunn Hall at the campus level.

Q: How and when is your hall government chosen?

A: The government is elected by an all hall vote at the end of each year. Any positions not filled are left open until another election can be held in the fall.

Q: What activities does Duncan Dunn hall have during the year?

A: Duncan Dunn has many activities that change from year to year. Some activities you may see are BBQ’s, attending athletic events, holding athletic competitions, and rafting trips. Duncan Dunn also participates in campus events such as Homecoming and Fall Hall Week.

Q: What government positions are available at the floor/house level and how can I get involved?

A: Duncan Dunn is a small hall and function mostly on the hall level. Anyone can run for open positions. Everyone is encouraged to attend government meetings, give feedback, participate in events, and hold events.

Q: What government positions are available at the hall level and how can I get involved?

A: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair, Historian, and 2 RHA Representatives. Other positions may be appointed from year to year as the government sees necessary. If you would like to get involved look for elections flyers and go to the all hall meeting at the beginning of the year. You can also ask the government members, Residential Education Director (RED), or any of the RA’s.

Q: On what does the government spend my $30 each semester?

A: This money is divided between Duncan Dunn Hall Government and RHA (Residence Hall Association). The majority of the money goes to the Duncan Dunn Hall Government who passes a budget at the beginning of the year. They spend you money on programs such as rafting trips, various competitions with prizes, and for administrative purposes. RHA is a place for all hall governments to engage on the campus level to advocate for issues that affect people living in residence halls. RHA uses the money to put on campus events, support campus events, and advocate for resident issues.

Q: When do the hall and floor governments meet?

A: The meeting time for the government is decided at the beginning of the year. Historically most governments meet on Sunday nights.

Q: Does Duncan Dunn hall provide any leadership training for people interested in becoming involved?

A: Yes, the Duncan Dunn Government holds retreats each year to develop the government’s skills and abilities.

Q: I understand Duncan Dunn Hall receives funds to reduce hall damages. Tell me more about the program and on what such money can be spent.

A: The Hall Improvements can go toward a TV, DVD, exercise equipment, foosball table, new furniture, etc. However, this money will be used for hall damages, which can limit its use for the aforementioned items. If you do not damage the hall, you will be able to purchase many items through the governments approval.

Q: How can I get on the move-in crew and help other residents get settled into the hall at the beginning of the year?

A: Individuals helping with move-in are able to move into the halls early free of charge. You should contact the Residential Education Director (RED) at (509) 335-6158 or the Department of Residence Life (509) 335-1227.
