Choosing a Residence Hall
WSU houses 4500 students in 18 residence halls offering a great variety of living options so that you can better select a place to live where you will make friends, study hard, and feel comfortable. All of our halls are within a 10-minute walk from the campus center, and share such common features as lounges, TV rooms, study rooms, kitchens, microwaves, washing machines and dryers, and sports equipment. Rooms typically range from 120 to 140 square feet. When making your hall choices, consider size, location, coed/single gender status, and single room opportunities. Disabled students with special needs should contact the Disability Resource Center at 509-335-1566 to discuss housing arrangements.
Signing Up for a Roommate
Most new students do not have a roommate chosen, so assignments are provided. The Housing and Dining Application asks students to answer questions that will help with assignment of both hall and roommates.
We used a computerized roommate matching process for fall 1999 that resulted in 92 percent of residents saying they were satisfied with their assigned roommate. The same survey showed 98 percent roommate satisfaction from students who choose their own roommate. Consider making a new friend while keeping your old high school friends by using our roommate matching process.
To room together, students must request each other as roommates. However, roommate preferences, like hall preferences, cannot be guaranteed, particularly if a student makes a change to an initial request. Mutually self-selected roommates choosing a special hall program will both be assigned to that program.

What to Bring
Plan to bring your own bed linens, blankets, towels, iron, clock, hangers, and personal items. Please also plan how you will hang your pictures and posters; double-sided tape is difficult to remove and nails leave holes. You should consider 3M Mounting Products or poster putty.
Additionally, you may bring your own refrigerator (see Housing and Dining Policies, for more information). A limited supply of 2 cu. ft. refrigerators and 600 Micro-Fridges®, a combination refrigerator/freezer and microwave (you may not bring your own microwave unless you live in Olympia Avenue where one microwave is allowed per room) are also available.
Computer Requirements and Computer Labs

Four enhanced study rooms are located in WSU residence halls. They are located in the Stephenson Complex, Gannon/Goldsworthy, Honors Hall, and Streit/Perham. Each enhanced study rooms equipped with 2 personal computers, a projector and screen, and space in which groups can study.
Vacation Break Housing
Housing is offered for the Thanksgiving, semester, and spring break periods in McCroskey, McEachern, Orton, Regents, Rogers, the Stephenson Towers, and Streit/Perham. Space may not be available during break for students in closed residence halls. Space in open halls is provided to students from closed halls on a first-come, first-served basis, and is handled through the office of Residence Life.
