Stephenson Complex
The Math, Science, and Engineering Hall
When choosing housing arrangements, the College of Engineering and Architecture and the College of Sciences strongly encourage incoming freshmen to sign up for the Stephenson Towers, which will become the “STEM” hall in Fall 2009, which offers a living-learning community for students interested in math, science, and engineering.
Research shows that bringing you together with other students who share your interest in science and engineering will help ensure an excellent start to your college career. Students who share a living-learning experience, like that offered in the Stephenson Towers, consistently do better academically than students who go it alone. Exposing you and your fellow math, science, and engineering students to culture, concepts, and careers in these fields tends to sustain motivation in your classes. Furthermore, the living-learning experience at the Stephenson Towers creates a cohort of students sharing a major who will become your foundation for support for your years here at WSU and beyond.
- The opportunity to come together with students who share a common academic purpose, encouraging the strong development of college-level study and learning skills.
- Free, tutor-assisted study halls in science and math, offered Sunday through Thursday evenings.
- Out-of-class programming specific to science and engineering, including lectures from successful alumni, student professional club demonstrations, and career information in science and technology.
- Opportunity to earn merit-based scholarships, specifically for students living in the Stephenson Towers.
- Close proximity to engineering and science classroom buildings. The Stephenson Towers are located near the mathematics and physical science buildings, and also near the College of Engineering and Architecture.
- The Stephenson Towers offer recently remodeled rooms and an in-hall Study Lab, with several computers and projection monitors. A close-knit and empowering community to help you achieve your academic goals.
Stephenson Complex consists of three high-rise towers, Stephenson East (built in 1969, refurbished with new furniture, carpet, etc. in 2008), Stephenson North built in (1966), and Stephenson South (built in 1966, refurbished with new furniture, carpet, etc. in 2008), connected by Stephenson Center. Each hall is co-ed by house (alternating floors). The Towers have a convenience store, an espresso bar, and a large "down under" where many dances and activities are held. Wireless is available in all areas of the Stephenson Towers.
All three halls are staffed with Resident Advisors (RAs) who help create learning-supportive communities.
